  • Advancing Governance and Stability in Somalia’s Recovery Zones Organized for GSD

Today’s session on “Advancing Governance and Stability in Somalia’s Recovery Zones” was both timely and energising.

It highlighted the critical need to build Somali-led systems that reflect the realities on the ground systems rooted in inclusion, accountability, and resilience.

One thing was clear: without a unified approach between the Somali Diaspora and government institutions, we risk repeating the fragmented efforts that fade as quickly as they begin.

Al-Shabaab recovery zones require more than good intentions; they need coordinated action, shared priorities, and effective structures that can deliver results.

We cannot afford to wait for perfect conditions. What is needed now is a policy framework that encourages Somali Diaspora investment, government leadership, and community voices to come together into one credible roadmap. Today’s discussion demonstrated that there is a strong appetite for change.

What is missing is the glue policy, trust, and delivery mechanisms that will hold it all together.

Somalia’s recovery won’t be achieved in conference rooms alone. It will be built through bold collaboration, practical engagement, and a shared commitment to doing things differently. Today was a step in that direction, but we need many more.
